Our village and community
Canillas de Aceituno extends along the slopes of Sierra Tejeda, in the north of the Axarquía region. Its lands rise up to La Maroma (peak 2,065 m) through a landscape of pine forests and rocky outcrops that covers almost the entire northern half of the municipality and forms part of the Sierra de Tejeda, Almijara y Alhama Natural Park.
The municipality has an area of 42km2. and is situated at an altitude of 645 m with a population of 2300 inhabitants.
Renown for our positive recycling efforts
For several years, villagers have created a spectacular display of Christmas ornaments using recycled material. The intricate decorations have become a tourist attraction in itself with people visiting specifically to see the ornaments.
How ironic that a village who woleheartedly supports waste recycling efforts would be targetted to become a central hub for waste processing in Malaga province.
Thanks to Rocío Ortiz García for sharing some of her spectaular images of the village with us here.
